On January 16th, the Harkins team celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by creating Valentine’s Day cards for senior citizens who reside in communities that we have built/renovated. Employee-owners and their families gathered at our offices to create personalized cards for residents at local senior living facilities. At-home kits were made available for those that were not able to attend in person. To start the day, a video on Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and impact was shown for everyone to watch. After that, the kids worked on an interactive activity based on Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech. Lastly, everyone gathered their creativity and skills to create loving, customized cards for seniors in the area. Our Risk Management Manager and Chair of our Equity and Inclusion Committee, Ellareese Burke, planned the event, with the support of Project Assistant Dawn Batzel and Senior Executive Assistant Lisa Dawson, preparing all the kits for everyone to use. Initially, our goal was to make 480 cards, but with everyone’s support, we exceeded that goal by making 927 heartfelt cards. The cards were a reminder that each resident is cared about and appreciated this Valentine’s Day.
